Sandy (Almost her name!)

Cali had her first day at the beach the other day and LOVED it!!! I took her down because I had to coach a beach volleyball practice and didn't want to leave her at home for too long alone. We went down early and I set up her play pen and I just let her get used to the sand for a bit before I had to start coaching.

Well, she had a blast! She dug and dug and dug and rolled and dug and ran around like crazy. She totally pooped herself out! Note to self- take her to the beach when she has a ton of energy :)

Here are pictures and a video from her first day at the beach!

And yes, I realize that I am treating her like our first child, but that's because she sort of is! Also, as you all know, I have been anxiously waiting for her to be ours for a really long time! Needless to say, I am excited and there will be lots of pictures posted and stories told!

New Cali is Here!

We finally have our new addition!!

I picked Cali up last Friday with my mom (who also got a puppy from the same litter) and it was a fun and crazy weekend at home with our new pups! Originally, my mom and I went and checked out the litter at 2 1/2 weeks when they had just opened their eyes. At that point, I picked the lightest colored girl left and she picked the darkest colored girl left. Scott and I really wanted as white as we could get her (and her dad is an english cream golden and her mom is one of the lightest goldens I've ever seen, so we had a pretty good shot!) and my mom wanted a golden golden. Well, when we went to pick up our pups, Richard, the man at Texas English Goldens brought me the dark puppy and said "Here's Cali!" Then, he handed my mom the almost completely white puppy and said "and here's the Moriarty puppy!" We were both so excited to have our puppies that we went with it, but were still kind of confused. We asked Richard (eventually) about the fact that my puppy was so dark and my mom's was so light. He said that it's very common for colors to change and that he put a collar on each of our dogs right after we picked them out so they didn't get mixed up! I totally believe that he gave us the original dogs we picked out, it was just SO funny that we got the opposite colors of what we were hoping for!

Over the next few days, the light puppy (who we were calling Luna) kept coming to me ALL the time! And, the darker puppy ALWAYS gravitated towards my mom. Well, about 5 hours before my flight took off I told my mom that I was thinking we should maybe switch dogs. After seeing their personalities over the weekend, the lighter one aka New Cali (we don't really call her New Cali, it was just a joke when we had to rename the puppies! :) ), just seemed to fit into the life style that Scott and I have and the dark puppy, Old Cali (now Bella), seemed to fit with my mom's life style! So, there you go...

Scott is in Florida for spring training so I went and picked up the little nugget and Cali and I are anxiously awaiting his return! Since Scott was out of town and I picked Cali up in Houston, I stayed for a few days over the weekend and hung out with my fam which was great! All of the little ones loved the puppies and the puppies loved them back equally. Cali and Bella also got to play with their Uncle Tex (yes, he is actually their uncle!) who is my sister's golden. He loved having the little ones around and was SO sweet to them.

Here are some pictures from the weekend!

Cali! The real one :)

Me with Bella (remember, I have lots of pics with Bella from the first few days because I thought I was taking her and not Cali!)

Cali passed out under the doll bed

Such a cute pic of Bella

Love this one!! This was one of their favorite spots
If you haven't noticed, they love being underneath things
Cali likes to belly crawl - and definitely likes the camera, but I'm pretty sure it's because she wants to eat it

Cali likes her legs out behind her like that - Just like her Uncle Tex!

Dogs with the Jay - they wanted his toys!
There's a good one to show her legs behind her!

Cali had her first doctor visit- she was good with everything except the nail clipping!
And she's exhausted from all of that hard work
My nephew Jake who was so good to both pups!
Cali trying out her carrier - I thought this was a good sign and that she'd be ok in it. Boy was I wrong!!!! She hated it, haha
She looks cute in it though :)
And this is how she slept the ENTIRE plane ride. Thank goodness for that.

Another funny story - When my mom took me and Cali to the airport, we decided we really needed to get her to go to the bathroom before I got the airport and were pretty sure there was no grass at the airport. So, we stopped at a random gas station, where we felt totally safe - or not - and I let her run and play in the field next to it for a few minutes. When we finally get to the airport, I try to stuff her in her carrier - she was NOT having it. My mom and I both had to push her in and zip it up, poor thing. She growled and moved around the whole time I was checking in and standing in the security line. At the security line I got to take her out and hold her for a bit which was really really good for her! I asked the lady if I was allowed to have her out anymore and she said she could be out of her carrier but couldn't just be roaming around. So, when I got through security I found an out of the way spot and kind of hid her with my bags and let her lay on my lap. She was SO much happier! Once we got on the flight, I put her under the seat, unzipped her carrier and she crawled out just like in the picture and barely moved the whole way! I'm glad I brought my sweater on the plane so that I could drape it over my legs and hide her! Haha. Needless to say, it was a really stressful plane ride but we made it in one piece!!
